Privacy policy
Effective date: November 7, 2026
Oso Voice is a communication app. A person who cannot rely on speech taps pictures and the app speaks the words aloud. This policy explains, in plain words, what the app does with information.
The short version
Oso Voice keeps everything on your device. It does not collect your information, it does not send anything anywhere, and it has no accounts.
What the app stores
The app stores the following on your device only:
- The words and pictures in the vocabulary, and how often they are used.
- Words, labels, and pronunciations that a caregiver adds or changes.
- Photos a caregiver chooses to attach to a word.
- Settings, such as the chosen voice, speech speed, and grid size.
- A short log of recent app errors (kept on the device, at most 20 entries).
This information stays in the app’s private storage on your device. Your device’s own backup (iCloud or a computer backup), if you have backups turned on, may include the app’s data, in the same way as other app data. The app itself sends nothing anywhere, and we do not have access to those backups.
What the app collects or sends
Nothing. Oso Voice has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third-party services. The app does not use the network. Speech is produced by the voices built into your device.
Camera and photo library
A caregiver can add a photo to a word. The app asks permission to use the camera or the photo library only when a caregiver starts this. Photos you choose are copied into the app’s private storage on your device. They are never uploaded. You can say no; the app works fully without photos, and you can change your choice later in the device’s Settings.
Deleting data
A caregiver can remove a photo from a word. Words a caregiver added can be hidden but not deleted in this version. Uninstalling Oso Voice removes everything it stores on the device. A single control to erase all data from within the app is planned for a future version.
Children’s privacy
Oso Voice is used by children as well as adults. Because the app does not collect, transmit, or share any personal information, there is no child’s data for us to hold, sell, or disclose. The settings area is behind a simple caregiver check so that settings do not change by accident. The check can be turned off and is not a lock; for a real lock, use the device’s own Guided Access.
Changes to this policy
If the app ever changes what it does with information, this policy will be updated first and the effective date above will change.
